Motherwell confirm signing of Irish midfielder

Motherwell have announced that they have made an agreement with Irish side Bohemians to sign midfielder Ross Tierney.

The 20-year-old will join the Fir Park club on January 1, having signed a three-and-a-half year deal, with the Irish club receiving an undisclosed fee.

Tierney, who has made 67 appearances for Bohemians, was recently nominated for PFA Ireland's Young Player of the Year.

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander told the club's website: "We’re really looking forward to Ross joining the club in January.

"He’s a young player who has had a couple of excellent seasons with Bohemians and his national squad.

"His attributes will fit in perfectly with how we play and his potential is unlimited at this stage of his career.

"He’s already met the squad and is excited about the move. We mirror those feelings."

Tierney helped Bohemians play through to the UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round, beating Sjarnan, Dudelange and PAOK, before eventually losing to the Greeks on aggregate.

The attacking midfielder scored twice in that run and also netted a winner against Australia on his Ireland Under-21 debut in June, the first of five caps so far.
