Motherwell coach Stevie Hammell insists club is committed to youth academy

Motherwell FC coach Stevie Hammell has assured fans and players that the club's Academy is thriving and ready to re-start as soon as possible.

The move comes as Hibs and other Premiership clubs are rumoured to be considering scrapping youth and reserve teams.

Former Motherwell hero Hammell, who is now the club's academy director, thanked players and their families for their hard work, creativity and patience over the lockdown period so far.

In a statement issued on social media, Academy director Hammell said: "With all the uncertainty surrounding our game just now, I would like to assure all our players and their families that myself and Motherwell Football Club are fully committed to our Academy.

"As soon as restrictions are lifted, we aim to be in a position to start back immediately.

"I hope to see you all back training and on the pitch as soon as it is safe to do so."

The statement also read: "It has been a challenging time for everyone, but to see the way our young players have embraced this challenge has been a credit to themselves and their families.

"We are proud of how our players have dealt with these challenging circumstances."
