Motherwell captain 'turns down MLS' as interest grows in the defender

Motherwell captain Declan Gallagher is believed to have turned down a move to Major League Soccer in America.

The Scotland defender is out of contract at Fir Park this summer, and the Daily Record reports that he is aware of interest from Portland Timbers and New York Red Bulls.

Both clubs did their background checks and were confident they could secure a visa, but it's believed that the 30-year-old doesn't think it's financially viable to uproot his family, especially after recently becoming a dad again.

It is reported though that there is interest from Scotland and English Championship.

Gallagher, who is currently out with a hamstring injury, has also been offered a new deal by Motherwell, but the club don't think he will sign it.

The former Livingston star could head to Euro 2020 as a free agent and assess his options from there as a key part of Stevie Clarke's Scotland squad.
