New Motherwell captain Declan Gallagher admits he has 'big boots to fill' to replace Peter Hartley.
The former Livingston defender took to social media to express his pride in being given the role, with goalkeeper Trevor Carson as deputy. Hartley left the club in May.
Gallagher, 29, said: "Absolutely buzzing to be captain of this massive club.
"Banter will still flow, but also there to set the standards with main man Trevor Carson.
"Peter Hartley set a great example, so it will be big boots to fill, but I'm ready for it and will do my best."
Gallagher signed from Livingston last summer and has made a major impact on Motherwell.
Manager Stephen Robinson told the club's website: "Declan is a leader who commands respect. He has been superb since he came here.
"Both Declan and Trevor are full internationals. They are influential in the dressing room and are respected and liked by all of our players.
"With both leading the dressing room, I am confident they will continue the positive impact our former captain Peter Hartley had on the players and in setting the standards we demand.
"I considered and spoke to a number of players for the roles, but they were younger, and I want them to concentrate on football and purely on continuing to develop their careers, instead of dealing with the other aspects the captaincy brings."
