Motherwell captain Declan Gallagher expected back in training

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander hopes captain Declan Gallagher will return to training next week, but he is expected to miss the games against Kilmarnock and Hamilton.

Scotland internationalist Gallagher suffered a muscle injury that kept him out of the 2-1 win over Dundee United and the 2-1 defeat at Celtic at the weekend, but Alexander says he should be back soon.

He said: "We're hopeful that he's going to start training next week, after the weekend.

"Fingers crossed it was a grade one on the scan, so it shouldn't be too long for him."

Gallagher, who lives in Dundee, was turned back from training today because of heavy snow, as it was deemed too dangerous for him to travel.

However, the Motherwell gaffer expects the squad that will be picked to play against Kilmarnock tomorrow to be in for a session this afternoon.

Gallagher could be back for the home game against St Johnstone (SNS Group)

Alexander said: "Declan's not in today because he's snowed in.

"He was coming down but we saw the weather and we actually turned him round because we thought it was too dangerous where he lives. We've sent him back.

"We've had a few phone calls and pictures of snow depths in streets and stuff like that, but one of the good points of training in the afternoons is that we give the players plenty of time to make that trek in to training, so every cloud and all that.

"Hopefully most of the boys get in, certainly the ones who will be involved tomorrow, we need them to train.

"We've got a great training venue that we know we can train in, but it's just making sure that the boys get there, and get there safely."
