Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson and ex-Steelmen gaffer tipped for Northern Ireland top job

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson is tipped as the odds-on favourite to replace Michael O'Neill as Northern Ireland gaffer.

The Northern Irish FA have stepped up their search after O’Neill left the role earlier this week to focus on Stoke City.

The current Fir Park gaffer, who is set to bring European football back to Lanarkshire with the side in third, has emerged as the early frontrunner for the job.

However, current under-21 boss Ian Baraclough is top of the list for some bookies to step up and take on the top job.

Baraclough notably led Motherwell to a 6-1 aggregate win over Rangers in the Premiership play-off to ensure survival, however left the following season after a poor start.

Former Hearts caretake Austin McPhee and St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright also appear on the longlist.
