Motherwell boss: Ojala 'goal' at Dundee United would've been given down the other end

Graham Alexander says Motherwell had a perfectly good goal chalked off in their 2-1 defeat to Dundee United - insisting it would have been given for the home side.

Finnish defender Juhani Ojala powered home a header in the first half with United holding a 1-0 lead, but he was penalised by referee Kevin Clancy for a foul on Scott McMann.

And Alexander suggested noisy protests from the home crowd had a hand in the goal being ruled out.

Asked what he made of the decision, he said: "I thought Juhani got above his man and dominated him, and that was it.

"I think it gets given at the other end, for me.

"You see contact and physical contact in every set-piece, but I think it was an early jump, he got on top of him and dominated him.

"It should have counted, but we are away from home in front of the passionate home crowd and it didn't go for us.

"But we didn't let that get to us."

The Steelmen rallied from that disappointment and finally found a way back into the game when Tony Watt scored from the penalty spot after being clattered by goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist, only for Charlie Mulgrew to find the winner seven minutes later.

Alexander added: "I was delighted watching my players play today and we should have got at least a point.

"But I would have been disappointed with a point because I thought we were the better team.

"We understand the realities of football and it's about scoring more than the opposition and that's what we didn't do."
