Motherwell boss hails Scott Fox's strength as goalkeeper signs new deal

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander has praised goalkeeper Scott Fox for his strength of character after he signed a new deal at Fir Park.

Fox joined the club last summer but suffered a nasty knee injury in training which ended his campaign before it even got going.

The 33-year-old, from Airdrie, was expected to be ruled out completely last term with cruciate ligament damage, but he recovered quicker than expected to make the bench for the Steelmen in their final two matches of last season.

And he eventually returned to action in May when he went on an emergency loan to Championship side Morton for their relegation play-off triumph against Airdrie over two legs. He kept two clean sheets as Morton secured safety.

Fox has been rewarded with a new Motherwell deal that will keep him at Fir Park until the end of next season.

And boss Alexander has praised his character. He said: “We’re glad to have Scott with us again for the new season.

“He’s shown great strength to get back from injury and has impressed on and off the pitch.

“It was great to see him get games in before the end of the season and we’re looking forward to having him with the group again.”
