Motherwell boss Graham Alexander wants "five or six" attacking options

Graham Alexander reckons Motherwell need "at least five or six" forward players before they kick off their Premiership campaign against Hibs on August 1.

While Alexander was pleased with the impact that Kaiyne Woolery made in the 3-2 win over Queen of the South, scoring his first goal for the club to take the three points, he says on another day he would have selected somebody else from the bench.

And while he is still to welcome a few players back from injury this pre-season, the Motherwell gaffer hinted that he might go back into the transfer market.

Motherwell fought back from 2-0 down to Championship side Queen of the South to take all three points and top Group F, courtesy of strikes by Tony Watt and Ricki Lamie before Woolery's clincher.

But Alexander wants more like that in his squad.

"I think we need to have at least five or six options for those front three attacking positions, because we ask a lot of them off the ball," he said.

"We're going to face different opponents, and in moments like that we need to be able to look at the bench and think we can have impact players.

"On another day it will be one of the other players, because we're going to use them all wisely so we have more available.

"We know we've got a goal threat in those front areas, but we still need to welcome back another couple of players into the fold.

"But I was delighted with his [Woolery's] impact, I thought it lifted the team, and we deservedly got the three points."
