Motherwell boss Graham Alexander urges empathy in mental health battle

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander says everybody needs to show empathy towards those who are battling with mental health, after a Stenhousemuir player was accused of taunting an Albion Rovers opponent last night.

Rovers star David Cox, a substitute in the 1-0 win at Stenhousemuir last night, says he has quit the game over an alleged remark made by opponent Jonathan Tiffoney, referring to a suicide attempt, and allegedly saying he "should have done it right the first time".

The Motherwell boss says he only has a passing knowledge of the incident, but says everybody must do better when it comes to helping others.

He said: "I only read a little piece this morning in one of the papers, but anything like that is not on.

"I think it's alleged at the moment and stuff like that so I can't judge that particular incident, but anything like that we have to have an empathy for people who are struggling and understand that it's in any walk of life, which I think has been proven over the last five or 10 years.

"There are various issues that people feel, and mental health for everyone is so important, and I know in the past it has been disregarded.

"I think it is getting better, but there's still a lot of work to do from everybody, and I think everyone should take it in the seriousness that it is, because people are losing their lives.

"If anyone can help another person then it's their duty to do that."
