Motherwell boss Graham Alexander delighted to secure first win against Ross County

Motherwell manager Graham Alexander was delighted to secure his first victory in charge of Motherwell

Second half goals from Devante Cole and Bevis Mugabi secured the Steelmen's first win since beating Livingston on October 31st.

The crucial three points moves Motherwell ahead of Ross County into 10th position in the league and Alexander praised his players' mentality.

The 49 year-old boss said: "It's an excellent night for everybody, not just myself. The players have took criticism this season, and rightly so, and at half-time it wasn't looking great.

"But it's the first time we've won for a while and it's the first time this season the team has come from behind to take points.

"The courage they showed in the second half was exceptional. Every credit to the players. It's a great confidence boost for them. It's going to be just as hard next week [against Dundee United]."

Oli Shaw gave the Staggies an early lead against the run of play after 12 minutes.

Liam Kelly made a smart low stop to deny former Motherwell man Jermaine Hylton but the ball squirmed straight to Shaw to tap into an empty net.

Motherwell equalised on 52 minutes when Ross Laidlaw was unable to hold the excellent Tony Watt's shot and the ball fell for Cole to tap home his fourth goal of the season.

The visitors made their ninth corner of the evening count when Mugabi sent a towering header past Laidlaw to secure a brilliant away win for the 'Well.

Motherwell host Dundee United at Fir Park in their next league fixture next Wednesday night.
