Motherwell boss critical of East Kilbride for lack of game time given to young defender

Motherwell boss Steven Hammell says a decision on how the rest of the season will pan out for young defender Logan Dunachie is yet to be decided after he criticised East Kilbride for not giving him enough game time.

The 18-year-old joined the Lowland League side on loan in September but has returned to Fir Park this month as the club weigh up what is best for the centre-back's development.

He was an unused substitute as the Steelmen were held to a 1-1 draw by Ross County in the Scottish Premiership, but he is highly-rated by the club and they feel he should have experienced more first team football under Kilby boss Kevin Rutkiewicz at K-Park.

Asked if Dunachie could be going back to East Kilbride for the remainder of the season, Hammell said: "We don't know if he will be going back.

"Every game he has played he has done really well but he didn't play as much as we wanted and he got left out a few times when he probably shouldn't have, so that is something we will need to assess.

"He is a good option for us, but he is still young.

"He trains well, he is progressing well and he is one we have high hopes for.

"He was at EK for six months and we'll see how the next six months of his season looks."

Last week Rutkiewicz admitted hopes of Dunachie returning were in the balance. He told Lanarkshire Live Sport: "Logan has gone back to Motherwell but we are still in talks with Motherwell about him coming back.

"It's 50/50 because we need to make sure our hopes for him align with Motherwell's. Where there's a glimmer, there's hope."
