Motherwell boss comments on future of out-of-favour Nottingham Forest winger Gboly Ariyibi

Out-of-favour Nottingham Forest winger Gboly Ariyibi looks unlikely to return to Motherwell this summer.

The 24-year-old impressed as he spent the second half of last season on loan at the Scottish club, racking up 18 appearances and scoring two goals.

Boss Stephen Robinson had been open about his desire to bring Ariyibi back to Fir Park, saying back in May: “We’re desperately trying to keep him and negotiating with Forest.”

The Reds are understood to be open to interest in the former Chesterfield wide man, who is currently training with the Under-23s.

And it seems he has options available to him, with Robinson having all but ruled out a move for Ariyibi.

“I wouldn’t think that is a possibility, no,” he told The National, when asked about the chances of signing the Forest midfielder.

“I’ve tried very, very hard, but Gboly has indicated to me that he is looking at other things.

“We’ve got wide players in, and I’m very happy with the players we have.”

Ariyibi made the switch to the City Ground from the Spireites in January 2017, in a deal worth roughly £500,000, but has not made a single first-team appearance for the club.

He has had loan spells at MK Dons, Northampton Town and with The Well.

Forest are also willing to allow Jason Cummings and Zach Clough to move on, while Michael Hefele, Daryl Murphy, Liam Bridcutt and Luke Steele have been told they are free to find new clubs as head coach Sabri Lamouchi looks to trim his squad.
