Motherwell boost as incoming signing earns Young Player of the Year nomination

Ross Tierney has received a nomination for PFA Ireland's Young Player of the Year award after his form at Bohemian, ahead of a move to Motherwell.

Fir Park boss Graham Alexander confirmed last month that the Republic of Ireland U21s attacking midfielder would be joining his side in January.

The League of Ireland season finished last week, with Bohs drawing 1-1 with Sligo Rovers to finish fifth.

Their season could end on a high though this Sunday against St Patrick's Athletic during the FAI Cup final.

Tierney is nominated alongside teammate Dawson Devoy and UCD's Colm Whelan, who has scored 24 times in 30 games for the first division outfit.

Motherwell's new recruit has an impressive seven goals and 15 assists ahead of the cup final this weekend.

Alexander previously said of the 20-year-old: "He is an exciting young player who will come in and enhance our firepower and our quality.

“We are delighted that he is coming to join us. He’s an attacking midfielder who can play in the front three.

"He creates opportunities and can score. He works his socks off and he is still only 20."
