Motherwell beat Manchester United to trophy at Football Business Awards

Motherwell's social media team are celebrating this evening after beating a host of clubs including Manchester United to net a prestigious business award.

The Steelmen enjoyed a 1-1 draw at Ibrox on Sunday and now the club have secured another big result away from home, with victory at the Football Business Awards 2021 in London.

Motherwell's media team of Grant Russell, Ally Reilly, Laura Brannan and Scott Gibson lifted the trophy for Best Digital/Social Media team, pipping Bristol City, Everton. Leicester City, Manchester United and Engage Digital Partners to the prize.

The club's social media content, which includes monthly documentary series "Inside Motherwell", is considered among the best in the game - and their team is now officially the best in Britain.

A panel of 27 high profile judges have worked their way through hundreds of entries to decide the winners covering all aspects of the football business world including; marketing, community, social responsibility, sponsorship, agency, media, brand activation, fan engagement, technology, social media, digital and innovation.

And head of communications Grant Russell said: "What an incredible honour.

"We are so fortunate we work for an amazing club with great support and amazing stories to tell."

Scott Gibson added: "Honestly, lost for words.

"The calibre we were up against was unbelievable.

"We work so hard as a team and I'm just so proud to be part of it."

The club were nominated for three awards in total, landing nods for best in football media and best new player/contract signing reveal, which related to the club taking players to sites around the North Lanarkshire town last season.

This included an electronic billboard which announced the return of striker Christopher Long, situated outside the town's Electric Bar and Airbles train station.
