Motherwell are still in talks with Stephen O'Donnell

Motherwell assistant manager Chris Lucketti says the club are still in talks with defender Stephen O'Donnell over an extended deal.

The defender signed a short-term contract in August until the end of January, with the idea that both parties would revisit that.

That's still the case despite a change of the management team, as Graham Alexander replaced Stephen Robinson and brought Lucketti in as assistant, with the club keen to hold on to the Scotland international.

Lucketti was tight-lipped about how that is progressing, but said: "Those situations are always ongoing and something we will keep in-house until we can make any confirmation on that."

The Motherwell number two was cagey on players potentially coming in this month, but did say some will be loaned out as the club bids to get them fully fit and up to speed, with no lower league football for the time being.

He said: "January is a busy time; we’re always looking if we can to improve, and it’s something that won’t stop until the window shuts.

"If the right player becomes available and we feel that they will improve the squad then we will look to do something.

“It’s difficult because some of the other lads need to play so we’re working as hard as we can on the training pitch and when that moment comes we can look to loan some of those young lads back out.”
