Motherwell and Hamilton fixtures bid to beat the weather with -9 temperatures forecast

It's a big night of Scottish Premiership action - but will the games beat the wintry conditions?

Well, it's a cold one out there and the forecast is likely to pose questions over some of tonight's games.

Motherwell are set to head to Rugby Park this evening to take on Kilmarnock, who are preparing for their first game under new gaffer Tommy Wright, and Hamilton Accies are also on their travel with a trip to West Lothian to take on in-form Livingston.

Both clashes are 6pm kick-offs on artificial surfaces, but fans will be anxiously checking the forecast throughout the day to see if the games will go ahead.

Hamilton's fixture has the biggest question marks hanging over it with heavy snowfall overnight in Livingston ensuring the ground staff at the Tony Macaroni Arena have a clear up job on their hands.

But on top of that the Met Office forecasts temperatures will drop to a bone chilling -6 degrees Celsius for the 6pm kick-off and -9 by the start of the second half.

The Lions recently had two attempts to play Aberdeen called off, with a frozen pitch putting paid to the first go in December and a waterlogged pitch postponing the second bite at the cherry last month.

Accies have prepared well for the conditions, though, clearing areas of their New Douglas Park yesterday during the snowfall to take part in training - and the odd snowball fight.

The picture looks more positive in Ayrshire where temperatures will get above freezing over the course of the afternoon, however the mercury is set to plummet around kick-off with temperatures around -2 being forecast.

Motherwell are looking to bounce back from Saturday's narrow 2-1 defeat to Celtic, while Accies look to build on their last-gasp efforts in the 1-1 draw with Rangers.

In the other Premiership clash scheduled tonight, Celtic travel to St Mirren for an 8pm kick-off in Paisley.

As things stand this morning, no pitch inspections have been called but we'll keep you up-to-date with the situation over the course of the day.
