Mothercare will close its 14 Irish stores as the company goes into liquidation.
The retailer, which sells products for babies, is blaming the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the closure, which will see 197 people lose their jobs.
Mothercare Ireland MD Jonathan Ward said that Covid-19's effect on the business has been unprecedented.
The company employed 197 staff across stores in Dublin, Cork, Drogheda, Dundalk, Galway, Limerick, Newbridge, Portlaoise, Sligo and Tralee.

In a statement, Ward explained that the company was already having some issues this year but that Covid-19 led to "substantial losses."
He said: "Mothercare Ireland has taken the difficult decision to place the company into liquidation and as a result we have ceased trading with immediate effect.
"When Covid-19 began to spread in Ireland no one knew the scale of the impact that this would have.
"The impact on our business to date is unprecedented and what has become clear over the recent weeks is that store sales are going to be seriously impacted while social distancing measures are in place in the short term and in the longer term as consumer habits permanently change.
"When we factor this in coupled with issues we have in our supply chain, the business will sustain significant losses this year and will continue to do so in the future."
The company, which is a separate entity to Mothercare in the UK, was already making very little profit in recent years and had anticipated a sales drop by up to 40% due to Covid-19.
Mr Ward added: "As a family business, it is devastating news for the entire team. Whilst we've tried to keep our teams as up to date as possible through these challenging times, it's still a huge shock. We wish to thank all our loyal management and staff for their dedication and service to our customers over the years."
"We'd like to acknowledge also the support of our customers, who have trusted us to look after their little ones for three generations, and our suppliers who have worked alongside us over the last 28 years."
Covid-19 has left almost 26% of Irish workers out of work, temporarily or permanently.
