Mother turns detective and finds CCTV footage of daughter's hit-and-run

A woman whose daughter was injured in a hit-and-run accident turned detective and tracked down CCTV footage of the perpatrator.

Amber Carter-Thompson, 28, suffered a fractured tibia after a driver hit her while she was crossing a road in Northampton last Friday.

Her mother, Gail Thompson, called the police , but ended up feeling disheartened after waiting for more than a week to hear back from officers.

Ms Carter-Thompson, from Sevenoaks, Kent, said her mother contacted local businesses and "within the space of six hours we got CCTV of it happening".

Hit-and-run driver on cocaine killed girl, 12, as she stepped off school bus

The 28-year-old was with a friend when a car struck her along Wellingborough Road at around 11pm.

She was sent to hospital in an ambulance.

Officers who arrived on the scene reportedly said she would receive a call over the next few days regarding the incident - but she claims she never heard back.

Her mother then issued a desperate plea on Facebook asking if anyone had seen the perpetrator.

She left dozens of voicemail messages and got no response, so she  "decided to ring the shops, and all of the places said the police hadn't been around".

She told the BBC: "You want answers but you don't want to hinder any investigation, but to hear that they hadn't contacted the shops for CCTV in over a week, as I was told they would, was fairly disheartening.

"A lot of people tape over CCTV if they don't need it.

"If that had gone there would have been no evidence what had happened."

Northamptonshire police are yet to comment.
