Parents often have an almost supernatural instinct when it comes to sensing whether something’s off. Call it divine intervention or call it over-protectiveness, whatever it may be, it’s always better to be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to your own children as one mother on TikTok would come to find out.
Jane Williamson was able to record part of the bizarre and frightening encounter from the relative safety of her car. She can be heard telling her children to “get buckled right now” while she frantically yells “no” at someone outside the window. In the moments afterwards she explains the strange situation as she tries to rationalize her response despite the fact that, on the surface, it seemed like an innocent enough altercation.
A mother’s instinct to protect her kids is always worth listening to. Jane explains that she had been at the grocery store and had been putting her kids in the car when an older woman in a red car comes up and tells Jane that she saw her baby. She then proceeds to hold out a five dollar note telling her it’s “money for you baby.”
Naturally, Jane refuses to take the money but the woman is insistent. The stranger tells her that it’s bad luck not to take the money and keeps trying to pass her the note but Jane continues to refuse. The mother of three also says that the woman was about 10 feet from the car meaning Jane would have had to have gotten out of her car and left the children to take the money.
Always trust your gut
Despite her continuing to refuse the woman lurks around and keeps waving the money but thankfully Jane and her children were able to escape the situation. Despite not knowing what the woman’s plan was Jane asks the people of TikTok whether it was possibly a scam adding, “there’s no way that was gonna pan out to be a good thing.”
Commenters weren’t sure exactly what the stranger’s end game was but most agreed that her insistence and apparent aggression suggested it could only be a bad thing. One viewer claimed it was a scam which involved sticking a tracker to the note (although that seems a little far-fetched). Another suggested the bill may have been laced with drugs but again, this seems unlikely.
A few claimed it was likely just an old tradition in which people give money to newborns and that Jane had nothing to worry about. Whatever it may be, it’s probably for the best that the mother followed her instincts, as the worst case scenario was her being a little rude to a lady who was genuinely trying to be nice, but on the other hand, she might have avoided a dangerous situation for her and her children.
Trust your mom gut. Do NOT accept money from strangers or do anything that take you away from your kids! This was so scary and I feel sick thinking about the outcomes.
