Mother's Day: Barnardos launch present deals in charity shops

Barnardos have launched their Mother's Day present deals, with top gifts available for as little as €5.

The children's charity's shops are stocked with all sorts of gifts like perfumes, cosmetic sets, jewellery, and handbags. Price ranges will vary, but typically presents will be between €5 and €25.

Barnardos Retail Manager Colette Miller said that all their items are in "excellent" condition. She said: "When you look at Bernardo's shops, a lot of our windows will be based around Mother's Day, and we will put in a variety of lovely things that anybody could come and buy for their mom. So we'll have, obviously some nice clothing, handbags - because moms love handbags, little cuddly toys, perfume, makeup, and cosmetics."

Ms Miller said cosmetics and beauty sets are the quickest sell-outs. She said: “Cosmetics in a basket are always very popular and it's a nice treat then for mum, maybe to be able to take some time out and have a bath and pamper herself a little bit. So they tend to be quite a popular type of gift for Mother's Day, we find.”

They also have a whole range of books, which would be "another lovely gift for Mum on Mother's Day". She added: "We'd also be sure that the price range will vary. So we would have little gifts that maybe a young child could buy for their mums for maybe €5 or something like that. And then the higher price points would be maybe up to €25, so it means that there should be something there for everybody."

Barnardos have been doing their Mother’s Day initiative for a couple of years now. The charity is also currently looking for volunteers to help out in their shops.

“We have employment vacancies as well," Ms Miller said. "We have a community employment scheme. People mightn't realize that either, but there's a great way to come to work for maybe somebody who's been outta work for a long time, maybe unemployed for 12 months or so.

"They can begin again with us. And we will offer training and practical work experience, and it's a lovely place to work and a good place to start again."
