Mother pleads guilty to manslaughter of 4yo Tyrell Cobb

Tyrell Cobb was found unconscious and later died in hospital in 2009.

The mother of Tyrell Cobb has pleaded guilty to manslaughter over the death of her four-year-old son on the Gold Coast in 2009.

Tyrell died in hospital from major trauma to his abdomen after he was found unconscious in a Biggera Waters home.

Heidi Strbak entered her plea today during an arraignment in the Supreme Court in Brisbane.

Tyrell began vomiting after he was put to sleep by Strbak, who left the home to get cigarettes leaving her ex-partner Matthew Ian Scown to watch the boy.

He never regained consciousness and an autopsy revealed he had suffered 70 bruises and abrasions including a blunt force injury to his abdomen.

Strbak will face a contested sentence next week which is set down for three days.

"The contest will essentially be the allegation by the crown that she is in fact the author of the blunt force trauma which led to her son's death," prosecutor Phil McCarthy told the court.

Strbak remains on bail.

She was visibly shaken as she left the court and did not speak to media.

Scown was also charged with manslaughter and pleaded guilty.

Last month he was sentenced to four years in prison.

But he was released from custody immediately because he had spent two years and eight months in custody for the crime.
