A 52-year-old woman has died following an incident involving a quad bike at her home in Co Carlow.
Gardai were called to attend the scene at a house in Rathvilly at around 8.30pm last night.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her body has since been removed to Waterford Regional Hospital for post mortem and the local coroner has also been notified.
An individual close to the family said the community are reeling after the death of the woman, who leaves behind two young children.
They described the incident as a "complete freak accident".
She is believed to have been trying out the vehicle at her home when it hit a curb or rock went out of control.
The woman is then understood to have become pinned between the vehicle and a wall.
Her family is described as being extremely respected in the area and at the centre of the local community.
The tragedy follows another incident in the county yesterday when a child was left with serious injuries after a dog attack.
A young boy was airlifted to hospital after the horror attack by a pet in Carlow town at 7.30pm.
The child is understood to be five years of age.
He was airlifted to Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Gardai said the dog, which is believed to be a pitbull, has since been destroyed.
They added that their inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
