Widnes dog attack: Neighbours say they heard screams as mum-of-three killed by two dogs in her home

A mother-of-three who died after a dog attack in Widnes has been named.

The woman, named locally as Elayne Stanley, died following the attack at a house on Graham Road in Widnes on Tuesday evening, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Following the incident, repeated attempts were made by officers to safely secure the two dogs in order to remove them from the address.

One was safety detained by officers, but the other had to be dead by armed officers from Cheshire Police.

Neighbours told the BBC they heard screams coming from the house in Graham Road, Widnes, at around 5:15pm on Tuesday.

Marie Airey said she heard screams coming from the house as someone called for towels.

The neighbour said the victim was a mother to three daughters, including twins.

Emergency services said they were called to the scene  following reports a woman had been attacked by the animals.

Cheshire Police said the woman was mauled at a house in Widnes.

Detective Inspector Ian Whiley said: “We understand that people in the local community will be concerned when they hear about what has happened.

“But I would like to reassure residents that we are doing all that we can to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

“However, at this stage, it is believed that the dogs were known to the woman and were living at the address.

“This has been an extremely distressing incident and our thoughts are with the woman’s family at this difficult time.”

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "At around 5.15pm on Tuesday 24 September, North West Ambulance Service informed police that a 43-year-old woman had been attacked by two dogs at an address on Graham Road in Widnes.

"Officers attended and discovered that the woman from Widnes was in a serious condition."

The statement added: "She was treated at the scene by paramedics, however, sadly passed away. Her next of kin have been informed and enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances.

There are not believed to have been any arrests at this stage.
