Mother of teenage son shot dead outside chicken shop says life is 'shattered' as police offer £20,000 reward

A mother whose teenage son was shot dead after being ambushed outside a chicken shop two years ago said her life had been “shattered into hundreds of pieces”.

Police today offered a £20,000 reward for information leading to the killers of Ethan Nedd-Bruce, 18.

CCTV shows his attackers arriving on a motorbike and in a silver Ford Kuga car apparently clear in the knowledge that Ethan was inside the restaurant. An image of a potential witness was also released.

Ethan was chased by the youths as he left the shop in Woolwich Road, Greenwich, at around 9.20pm on October 22, 2018.

His mother Cherie Nedd, an HR consultant, told the Standard: “This is a close-knit community and someone must know who is responsible.

“Please don’t protect the killers. If you’re a mother, how would you feel if information was being withheld?

“It won’t bring Ethan back but it will give us closure so we can sleep at night knowing they are behind bars.

“Ethan’s murder is like a mirror shattered into hundreds of pieces. You try and pick them up but it never goes back together. Life is a struggle.”

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard, from the Met’s Specialist Crime, believes the killing was a targeted attack linked to a number of other incidents in the area between two criminal groups, now largely dismantled.

He said: “It is now two years since Ethan was murdered as he left a chicken restaurant but we have not given up.

“We have an image which shows someone we believe could be a key witness - a white male with a beard holding a mobile phone.

“We believe he walked past the chicken shop where Ethan was in the moments prior to the first attack.

“This person may well have seen something that could assist our investigation and I would urge him to make contact with officers.

“We are also releasing footage showing the two vehicles Ethan’s attackers used that evening. One is a motorbike with a rider and pillion passenger, the other a silver Ford Kuga with a number of occupants.

“Both these vehicles were in Woolwich Road at the time of the first altercation and then pursued Ethan into Armitage Road.”

He added it was “not too late to do the right thing” and speak to officers, adding: “Whatever the motive in this case, Ethan did not deserve to be pursued and attacked in this brutal and shocking manner.”

Anyone with information should contact the incident room on 0208 721 4622 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
