Mother of newborn baby found dead in supermarket car park traced by police

The mother of a newborn baby found dead in a supermarket car park has been traced by police.

Officers were called to the tragic discovery in a Morrisons car park in Bilston, Wolverhampton, at around 9am on Sunday April 11.

The baby's body was discovered by a member of the pub, according to Birmingham Live.

Police had launched a desperate search for the child's mother.

She has since been found and is "receiving appropriate care".

Police say they will speak to the mother "in due course".

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We’ve identified the mother as a result of our earlier appeal and she is now receiving appropriate care.

"We will be speaking to her in due course. Thank you to everyone for sharing the appeal."

Officers had launched a desperate appeal to find the mother.

They stared scouring CCTV and ringing hospitals to find her as they were concerned for her health.

Tributes have already started to be brought to the scene, on the Black Country Route.
