Mother of murdered Oregon teen loses all hope after authorities accidentally release her son’s killer

A manhunt is now underway in Oregon for Ty Anthony Sage, 26, after a suspected murderer was mistakenly set free from the Multnomah County Detention Center in Portland due to a major clerical error. This is, to put it lightly, a huge mistake on the part of the authorities and is awful for the family, who have already been through so much.

According to a report from Fox, Sage was supposed to have his bail denied last Thursday, but a release form from a week before mistakenly gave him a $5,000 bail amount, which he posted. He was then released on Monday, September 22, 2025. This is in direct violation of the judge’s order and seems to have been a very preventable mistake.

Sage was originally arrested back in May in connection with a 2021 robbery and shooting that took the life of 15-year-old Lowgunn Ivey and injured two other people. Lowgunn’s mother, Jodie Ramsey, said “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster for the last four years,” and that “My world stopped the day my son died.” It’s truly awful to hear something like this, especially when it seems like the system has failed her and her family.

Murderer set free by accident, manhunt underway

Ramsey said, “It’s a major mess up, it’s a monumental mistake that should have never occurred.” Ramsey added that Sage’s release has left her and her family in fear. She said, “Very fearful, very fearful, it’s going to be a constant fear for me until he is back in custody, because he is [out of] custody doing God knows what.” I honestly can’t believe this is a situation she has to face after everything she’s already been through. To be fair, mistakes happen, but a mistake like this seems like something that should have been caught a long time ago.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office also released a statement, with Sheriff Nicole Morissey O’Donnell saying, “I recognize that the system has failed, and it’s failed Lowgunn’s family and our community. We hold the ultimate responsibility for a person’s release. In this case, we fell short. But we are committed to doing everything we can to restore community trust and confidence in our organization.” She also added that Sage’s release appears to be an “isolated incident” and that “this mistake should not have happened.” I think we can all agree that it shouldn’t have.

Ramsey said that after they finally caught him and had him in custody, she had all the hope in the world, but now that he is on the loose, she has “100% doubts” that her son will ever get justice. There’s a manhunt underway, but it’s a truly awful situation for everyone involved, especially for the family who has to live with the constant fear that he is out there.
