The mother of a boy killed in a Townsville car crash is facing fraud charges over the alleged forgery of Centrelink documents to obtain parenting payments.
The Townsville Magistrates Court has heard Lesley-Lee Hill was in custody at the time of the accident for the unlawful use of a motor vehicle, however she was granted bail to arrange her son's funeral.
Lucius Baira-Hill, 13, and three other teenagers died when the car they were travelling in clipped a roundabout and struck a traffic light pole on June 7.
Ms Hill was arrested last Friday over fraud offences and taken into custody.
She has been charged with 13 offences, including two counts of forgery and uttering and eight counts of obtaining financial advantage for self.
Police said the alleged offending occurred between October 2019 and March this year and concerned the forging of documents purporting to be from the Department of Child Safety.
The court heard Ms Hill claimed to be the primary caregiver of Lucius, who was under the guardianship of his grandmother, to obtain several thousand dollars in Centrelink support payments.
Her three other children are not in her custody.
Police opposed bail, arguing Ms Hill was at risk of reoffending.
Her lawyer, Phil Rennick, said she had spent the past week in the Townsville Women's Correctional Centre.
"This is a young woman who is still going through a harrowing time," he said.
Magistrate Cathy Wadley granted bail on the condition that Ms Hill adhere to a curfew and report to police twice a week.
The case will return to court in August.
