A mother has called out Canada’s Wonderland on TikTok after negligent staff almost resulted in her daughter falling out of a new rollercoaster at the park, according to her. If she hadn’t thought fast and used all her strength to protect her child things could have ended very badly.
The mother, who runs the TikTok account “LifewithLocklyn,” told the terrifying tale, starting out her video by telling viewers, “my ten-year-old daughter was nearly [killed] because of a neglectful Canada’s Wonderland employee.” While things can and do go wrong at theme parks, her story is truly a parent’s worst nightmare.
According to the mother, her daughter, Locklyn, was excited to try the new ride, Alpenfury, at Canada’s Wonderland. As the ride was relatively new, it seems the park workers may not have been as prepared for any technical difficulties. While Locklyn and her mother tried the test seats to make sure it would be safe, once they got on the actual ride it was clear that the lap bar that was designed to keep riders in place was not low enough for the young girl, with her mother describing the space between as being big enough to fit another person in.
The lap bars weren’t checked
As she was already locked in on her side, Locklyn’s mother wasn’t able to reach over and press the bar down further. This meant Locklyn’s life was in the hands of the staff who were responsible for checking the bars were secure. While they had checked once, the mother alleges that it was clear they weren’t going to check again and despite both Locklyn and her mother telling one employee that her bar was not secure, he gave the thumbs up to the controller to send the ride off.
The next few minutes were excruciating for Locklyn’s mother who had to use all her strength to hold her daughter in place with her arm so that she didn’t fall out. Luckily she was strong enough to prevent anything tragic occurring as the ride is a launch rollercoaster, reaching speeds of 71mph and has a total of nine inversions, the most of any launch coaster in the world. The fact Locklyn was able to stay in her seat is a miracle.
How did Canada’s Wonderland respond?
While the park manager offered the pair free fast passes to make up for it, there wasn’t much they could offer to help overcome the trauma. As it was a new ride there weren’t any photos taken during the ride as you’d normally expect. While the employees were spoken to by management, Locklyn’s mother wants assurance that this won’t happen to anyone else.
On the official Canada’s Wonderland TikTok viewers swarmed the comments of a POV video showing the new ride. “THIS IS WHAT THE CHILD WASNT STRAPPED IN ON??” one shocked viewer asked, “You should be showing a POV of showing your employees how to make sure a lap bar is secured correctly.” added another.
Thankfully nothing bad happened to Locklyn, but it could have been an entirely different story. Attentive employees are a must in such situations, and even if there is no danger, stopping the ride and letting Locklyn off would have been the right thing to do.
