Mother in illicit Randallstown nail salon charged for leaving infant and toddler in car

BALTIMORE _ A mother who left her young children in the car while she was inside a Randallstown nail salon that was operating even though it was supposed to be closed has been charged with a misdemeanor, police said.

Baltimore County police responded at 12:19 p.m. Wednesday to a call reporting child neglect. The dispatched officer found a 3-month-old boy and a 3-year-old girl inside a parked black Honda with no adult supervision while the outside temperature was in the 70s, police said.

The officer used a baton to break the driver's side window to release the children "after several attempts to locate the parent or vehicle owner," police said.

Medics were on the scene to make sure the children were not in distress, police said.

Police located the mother, Baltimore City resident Keontae Moodie, 21, inside a nail salon that had its shades drawn. An employee eventually answered officers knocking on the door, and Moodie identified herself as the owner of the vehicle and the children's mother, police said.

The nail salon was told to shut down because of the coronavirus restrictions and it complied, police said.
