Mother charged with murder after five-month-old son found stabbed

The crime scene on Preston Road in Wembley, north London ( SWNS )

A mother has been charged with murder following the death of her five-month-old baby son, found stabbed at the family home.

A woman was arrested after paramedics rushed to the scene in Wembley, north London, following reports of an injured child.

The baby boy was pronounced dead at the scene soon after police officers and London Ambulance Service arrived, said the Metropolitan Police.

The 31-year-old woman was later charged with the murder of her son, Elias Biad.

A post mortem was carried out at St Thomas’ Hospital on Monday gave the preliminary cause of death as an “incised wound”, police said.

Officers and emergency workers arrived at around 10am on July 22, following a call about an injured infant at an address in Preston Road at 9.51am.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. A baby, believed to be less than a year old, was pronounced dead at the scene,” said a Met spokesperson.

Shocked neighbours said a woman dressed in black had been led away in handcuffs by the police.

Homicide detectives launched an investigation and Mariam Benzain was kept in custody before appearing at Willesden Magistrates’ Court last Friday.

At an Old Bailey hearing on Tuesday, Ms Benzain was remanded in custody and is set to appear at the same court on a date still to be confirmed.
