Mother charged with manslaughter after two-year-old dies after 'accidentally shooting himself'

Dynesha Harris, the child's mother, and Tony Fowler have been charged with manslaughter ( Mobile Alabama Police Department )

A two-year-old has died in the US after accidentally shooting himself, police have said.

The boy’s mother and a man have been charged with manslaughter, according to local media.

The toddler was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound on Thursday, where he died from his injuries, Alabama police said.

He reportedly triggered a loaded gun in a hotel room in the city of Mobile.

Police said said they received reports of a shot being fired at a Red Roof Inn on Thursday morning but did not find a victim at the scene.

Officers then heard that a young child had been hospitalised after being shot, they said.

On Friday morning, the boy’s mother, Dynesha Harris, had been released on bail while the male suspect, Tony Fowler, remained in jail, according to local TV station WKRG

Mr Fowler was also charged with marijuana possession and had four outstanding arrests warrants, according to local media.

Mobile Police Department said an investigation into the shooting was ongoing.

Another child died in an accidental shooting in the US earlier this week, with police saying that the four-year-old was hit with a bullet while “playing wrestling” with his father.

The boy was shot in the head by a semi-automatic handgun at his family home in Indiana.
