Prosecutors: Children were injured by mother

March 16--A 20-year-old Chicago mother of three young children was ordered held in lieu of $200,000 bail Sunday after prosecutors said her kids were found with various broken bones and other injuries.

Destinee M. Hobson, of the 7000 block of South Harper Avenue in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, was charged with aggravated battery to a child under 13, which authorities were alerted to Thursday, according to Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Jennifer Walsh and court records.

The father of the children -- boys 17 months and 5 weeks; and a 21/2-year-old girl -- found the 17-month-old with bruises on his arm and chest Wednesday, according to Walsh.

The father called Illinois Department of Child and Family Services on Thursday, and the department contacted police, Walsh said.

Police knocked on the door of the residence but no one answered, according to Walsh.

Officers eventually knocked down the door and found clothing and vomit on the floor, as well as the three unsupervised children, Walsh said.

Hobson was later found hiding under the stairs, Walsh said.

The children were taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where the 17-month-old boy was found to have fractures to his left and right shoulders that were in various states of healing, as well a broken right arm, court records state.

The girl had multiple scars on her arms and back that Hobson could not explain, according to court records.

The 5-week-old had a fractured elbow, according to court records.

The 17-month-old remained at Comer, while the other two children have been placed in DCFS custody, according to court records.
