Mother and daughter who died in crash near Porthmadog were 'best friends'

The families of a mother and daughter who died in a crash involving a car and a lorry have paid a beautiful tribute to the "best friends".

A statement from the families of Anwen Mitchelmore and Nancy Roberts said they wanted to "celebrate" their lives.

It added: "To celebrate the lives of a mum and her daughter, two best friends who were taken from us so cruelly, but who will live on in the laughter, in every ounce of love and in every day that we were so lucky to share."

Anwen, 59, and her 84-year-old mother Nancy, who were both from the Porthmadog area, died in the crash near Garndolbenmaen on Wednesday, July 15.

Emergency services were called to a crash involving a red Volkswagen Polo and a rigid flatbed yellow lorry on the A487 between Garndolbenmaen and Penmorfa at around 3.30pm.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics at the scene, both the driver and passenger who were travelling in the Polo, were pronounced dead at the scene

Their families said an ‘englyn’ has also been created for Anwen and Nancy. It reads:

"Dwy wên sy'n aros eleni - dwy wên

dyner a fu'n gwmni

erioed; dwy'n eu direidi'n

rhannu winc i'n cario ni."

North Wales Police said the investigation to establish what happened is underway.

Officers continue to appeal to anybody who may be able to assist and who is yet to come forward to do so by calling 101 and quoting incident number Y100773 .
