North Wales Police said Anwen Mitchelmore, 59, and her 84-year-old mother Nancy Roberts, who were both from the Porthmadog area, died in the crash near Garndolbenmaen on Wednesday afternoon.

Sergeant Emlyn Hughes of the Roads Policing Unit is continuing to appeal for witnesses to the crash.

He said: “Our heartfelt condolences remain with the families of both ladies who were tragically killed. They are now being supported by a specially-trained Family Liaison Officer.

“I would also like to thank everyone who has contacted us so far with dash cam footage, however I continue to appeal to anybody who may have been travelling in the area at the time of the collision, and who is yet to make contact, to do so as soon as possible."

Emergency services were called to a crash involving a red Volkswagen Polo and a rigid flatbed yellow lorry on the A487 between Garndolbenmaen and Penmorfa at around 3.30pm on Wednesday.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics at the scene, both the driver and passenger who were travelling in the Polo, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information or dash cam footage is asked to contact officers at the Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting incident number Y100773 .
