Mostly dry with sunny spells: Forecast for the first weekend of 2020

The first weekend of the year is set to be rather mild and even sunny at times.

The North East will be mostly dry but the odd outbreak of drizzle is still possible.

Temperatures could reach up to 9 °C on Saturday and up to 10 °C on Sunday but some areas may still feel a chilly wind.

The Met Office told us what to expect:

Friday

"Early cloud and rain soon clearing. A fine and dry morning with plenty of sunshine follows, although feeling rather chilly with fresh winds.

"Cloud likely thickening a little later, especially across the Pennines, with isolated showers possible. Maximum temperature 5 °C."

Friday evening

"Rather windy overnight, with further low cloud, hill fog and outbreaks of rain or drizzle possible, mainly across the Pennines. Drier across eastern and southern parts, with clear spells. Minimum temperature 2 °C."

Saturday

"Mostly dry, with variable amounts of cloud, and some brighter or sunny spells.

"The best of these in the east, whilst some fog and drizzle is likely across the hills. Maximum temperature 9 °C."

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday

"Cloudy Sunday, but sunny spells in the east. Windy Monday, with rain clearing to brighter spells. Chilly overnight, then windy Tuesday, with rain later. Often mild, perhaps very mild Tuesday."
