Mostert unfazed by more Supercars rain

After a stellar performance from the back of the grid in the past Supercars round, Chaz Mostert is hoping for the same wet weather conditions when the Sydney SuperSprint begins on Saturday.

Mostert was excluded from Race 25's qualifying due to a technical breach but that didn't stop the Walkinshaw Andretti United driver navigating through heavy rain and the field to snare third last Sunday.

The 2014 Bathurst 1000 winner says his cars wet weather package has been awesome along with his team, and a third consecutive round at Sydney Motorsport Park would be even greater if they can stick to that.

"We got a pretty quick package in the wet weather," Mostert said on Friday.

"So if it rains this weekend we'll I feel like we'll be in for a good showing but we obviously want to keep working on our dry package and keep moving forward.

"It's pretty unique place here.

"Some super fast cars out there, some super fast young guys out there keeping all us older guys honest so they're the guys to chase.

"We'll see how we go this weekend."

Fourth on the championship standings - 519 points adrift of leader Shane van Gisbergen with Jamie Whincup second and Will Davison third - Mostert said a consistent weekend could put him right in contention to challenge for a podium finish with three rounds remaining.

"We need to qualify better and then if you qualify if the race cars is there... you'll be able to hang on," he said.

"But we've just been coming from too far back in the dry racing over the last two weeks.

"So yeah, one lap pace is our sole focus going into this weekend."
