Most sought-after jobs in Britain unveiled - as well as what they actually pay

While we might dream of becoming film stars, sportsmen and women or chart-topping musicians, they're not the simplest of jobs to apply for.

So, putting fantasy to one side, job side Glassdoor decided to take a look at what people were actually applying for in real life.

After analysing more than a million keywords from people looking for roles, it compiled a list of the jobs Brits are actually searching for - as well as what they pay.

And the results might surprise - with technology, finance and administrative roles the most in demand, all roles that require experience and, often, qualifications.

On the money front, nine out of  the ten most searched for roles pay above the average salary.

These the UK’s most in-demand jobs according to searches on Glassdoor, along with the average salary:

  1. Project Manager - £41,808 a year
  2. Business Analyst - £39,127 a year
  3. Data Scientist - £46,665 a year
  4. Software Engineer - £41,100 a year
  5. Mechanical Engineer - £33,765 a year
  6. Accountant - £36,171 a year
  7. Graphic Designer - £25,543 a year
  8. Software Developer - £35,247 a year
  9. Data Analyst - £30,323 a year
  10. Executive Assistant - £39,163 a year

Glassdoor director Joe Wiggins said: “Jobs for people with experience and skills within technology, engineering and finance are hot right now.”

The better news is there are plenty of them about - with Glassdoor finding more than 100,000 openings across the top 10 jobs.

There was also evidence people are improving themselves to get a better job, with frequently self-taught skills in technology seeing high demand - searches for skills such as Java, Python, .net, SQL and Linux were all prominent in June 2019 the jobs site said.
