Most sex deviants found in the Paisley town centre postcode

Police Scotland figures have revealed there are 122 predators and perverts living in Renfrewshire.

The PA1 postcode - which covers much of central Paisley - has the highest number at 29.

Specialist police tasked with monitoring paedophiles and sex attackers said they will always act to protect members of the public.

In total, there are 122 people on the Sex Offenders Register living in communities across the region, according data released by the force covering March.

This is down slightly from December’s police watch list total of 125.

Across Police Scotland’s K Division, which includes Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, there are 158 registered sex offenders living in the community with a further 56 in custody or hospital.

Offenders are monitored in the community by a dedicated team of officers based at the division’s Public Protection Unit in Osprey House, Paisley.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “While we can never eliminate risk entirely, we want to reassure communities that all reasonable steps are being taken to protect them.

“We put in place measures to minimise the likelihood of further sexual reoffending by registered sex offenders and would seek to reassure people that sexual reoffending rates remain extremely low.

“Registered sex offenders are robustly managed by the police and our partners through the multi agency public protection arrangements, and subject to comprehensive risk assessment and risk management in the community.”

She added: “I would like to reassure the public within Renfrewshire that we are focused on increasing our capability and capacity to tackle those intent of committing sexual offending.”

Figures show 29 living in PA1, 28 in PA2 and 18 in PA3.

The PA4 postcode, covering Renfrew and Inchinnan, has 23.

Across Scotland, there are 4,358 registered sex offenders living in communities.

Police are hunting 13 predators, all are thought to have escaped abroad.
