Most runs in an IPL over: Romario Shepherd's explosive 32-run over is sixth in all-time list

NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians' Romario Shepherd single-handedly altered the course of the match during the final over of their innings against the Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

His ferocious onslaught saw MI post an imposing total of 234/5 on the scoreboard, courtesy of an incredible 32 runs plundered off the over. MI eventually won the contest by 29 runs after restricting DC to 205/8.

Facing the bowling of pacer Anrich Nortje, Shepherd unleashed an array of breathtaking strokes that left the Delhi Capitals bowler reeling.

The over commenced with a boundary, swiftly followed by a hat-trick of towering sixes, as Shepherd effortlessly dispatched the ball over the boundary ropes with remarkable ease. A four in the fifth delivery further compounded Delhi's misery, culminating in a blockbuster six off the final ball.

Shepherd's remarkable feat of smashing 32 runs off the last over ranks as the sixth most expensive over in the history of the Indian Premier League. The MI batter joined the elite company of players who have made a significant impact with their explosive batting displays.

The record for the most runs in an IPL over is jointly held by Chris Gayle and Ravindra Jadeja, both of whom smoked 37 runs in an over.

Gayle set the record in 2011 while playing for RCB, unleashing a relentless assault on Prasanth Parameswaran of the now-defunct side Kochi Tuskers Kerala. A decade later, in 2021, Jadeja, representing CSK, equaled the record by dismantling Harshal Patel of RCB with an array of explosive strokes.
