'Most regal' corgi waves like the Queen, loves biscuits and dresses up in Union Jacks

Some dogs were just destined for royalty, and Archie the Pembrokeshire Welsh corgi is one of them.

Archie was crowned the 'Most Royal Pooch' at DogFest 2022, the UK's biggest dog-friendly festival, at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire on Saturday.

The one-year-old pup - also known as His Royal Archieness on Instagram - has a regal habit of "waving like the Queen".

Owner Lauren Coles, 29, from Warwickshire, spoke to The Mirror about Archie's grand personality and shared his celebratory plans for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Lauren said: "Archie is very friendly, bubbly and so well-behaved. When he gives you his paw, he waves it gently in the air just like the Queen."

Last July, Lauren and her partner Adam Bourdon, 30, welcomed puppy Archie into their new home, and chose a corgi as the breed came recommended to first-time owners.

Despite his royal nature, Archie's name wasn't inspired by Prince Harry and Meghan's son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor - Lauren says they just liked it and thought it suited him perfectly.

She said: "Archie is very patient and will wait as long as possible for a treat. He is very food-driven and his favourite snack is biscuits.

"We try not to give him human ones - though he does like them - but he is allowed gingernuts when he gets travel sick."

Similar to Queen Elizabeth II's corgis, Archie loves going on walks and playing in the countryside, and he enjoys meeting other dogs.

"His best friend is a Finnish Lapphund called Mara and they play so lovely together," Lauren said.

Prior to visiting DogFest on Saturday, Lauren signed Archie up to the Ulti-mutt Royal competition, and was delighted when he was shortlisted to the finals.

Archie competed against other wannabe-royal pups, including rescue dog Duke and Princess Peanut the dachshund, to take the crown.

He was awarded a platinum prize hamper, filled with enrichment toys, peanut butter, a special jubilee bandana and matching bow tie.

"It was amazing to win and we had such a great day," Lauren said.

Archie will be dressed for the part this weekend in one of his smart Union Jack bandanas, which he reps for a company on Instagram.

"We will be celebrating the Queen's Jubilee by going to a Jubilee corgi meet-up in Leicestershire with a dozen other corgis," Lauren said.

"Then we're having a picnic in the park with our little village."

It won't be scones and sandwiches for Archie - but maybe he'll get a cheeky biscuit while he's there.
