Most popular dog names searches in the UK revealed: is yours on the list?

Choosing the ideal name for your dog can be difficult. As it’s National Dog Day this Saturday, Buzz Bingo has compiled the most popular pet name searches made across the United Kingdom in the past 12 months, revealing that Brits currently prefer current pet names to more traditional ones.

Barbenheimer, football greats Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and well-known musicians all figured. So which names showed the biggest percentage increase in searches?

Which dog name searches have increased the most?

1. Barbie (498 per cent)

2. Buster (294 per cent)

3. Lionel (153 per cent)

4. Einstein (113 per cent)

5. Cillian (111 per cent)

6. Jefferson (102 per cent)

7. Gamora (100 per cent)

8. Margot (73 per cent)

9. Spider-Man (63 per cent)

10. Drax (62 per cent)

Barbie is the favourite choice for dogs so far in 2023, recording a 498 per cent increase in popularity. Buster, which was up 294 per cent, is in second place, demonstrating how popular classic dog names continue to be across the country.

After Messi joined Inter Miami CF, Lionel's performance increased by 153 per cent. Lionel Messi appears to hold an advantage over Cristiano Ronaldo in the continuing “King of Football" arguments, 153 per cent to 55 per cent.

Since the recent release of Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy, 111 per cent more dog owners have searched for Cillian.

Einstein (up 113 per cent), who was a character in Oppenheimer, also rose significantly in popularity.

Spider-Man, Drax, and Gamora, the latter pair following the release of Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3, are just a few of the Marvel characters in the top 10.

The name Swift is up 22 per cent, which reflects the popularity of her completely sold-out tour.

As the British summer draws to a close and cottage-core becomes fashionable again, nature names like Buttercup (up 53 per cent), Willow (up 43 per cent), Daisy (up 36 per cent), and Clover (up 30 per cent) are more and more popular.
