Most popular baby names of 2020 so far - and a Scottish one has made the list

Baby names go in and out of fashion - and there are already some unusual newcomers this year.

Parents across the globe appear to have taken inspiration from celebrity culture and literature when naming their newborns.

According to the parenting website Nameberry, there have been some new trends emerging when it comes to popular monikers in 2020 so far.

Luna now tops the girls list, the name of the Roman moon goddess, The Mirror reports.

Singer John Legend and Chrissy Teigen named their little girl Luna which may be the inspiration behind the popular choice.

Asher has become the most popular boys name, taking the top spot from last year's winner Milo.

There are three newcomers to the girls list - Ava, Eloise, and Eleanor.

Scottish name Isla comes in at number five at on the list - derived from "Islay", which is the name of an island off the west coast of Scotland.

William Shakespeare created characters Ophelia in Hamlet and Olivia in Twelfth Night, both of which have made the list.

Arlo, Leo and Levi are the new additions the the boys list.

Surprisingly, Archie has fallen out of the top 10, despite Meghan Markle and Prince Harry picking it for their firstborn son last year.
