Atticus, Isla and Theodore might sound like characters from a Harry Potter novel – but they’re actually the most popular baby names of the year so far.
It transpires that 2019 is the year that parents are getting experimental with their choices, with traditional monikers like Charlotte and Jack traded for quirkier, new-age counterparts.
The list, as published by baby name site Nameberry, is based on which names have attracted the most of its 11 million page views since January.
The girl’s list is topped by vintage-sounding floral name Posie, which is often used as shorthand for longer names like Penelope or Josephine.
It's followed by Isla, Aurora and Maeve, all of which might elicit bewilderment in the playground and spelling mistakes in the classroom.
The number one girl's name for 2018 was Olivia, which, it seems, is still a popular choice as it ranks third in Nameberry's new list.
As for boys, Latin name Milo is the frontrunner followed by Jasper, Atticus, Theodore and Asher.
Some of the names featured in the lists have ancient origins, with Aurora and Atticus found in Greek and Roman mythology.
Further down in the list, which contains 1,000 names, are some eloquent literary-inspired names, such as Ophelia and Silas. The former comes from Shakespeare's Hamlet while the latter is the first name of George Eliot's protagonist in her 1861 masterpiece, Silas Marner.
