Most of Trafford has managed to ‘suppress’ coronavirus

Most areas of Trafford have managed to ‘suppress’ coronavirus.

According to data on the government’s interactive Covid-19 tracking map, these areas had fewer than three new cases confirmed in the week ending May 12.

In the government’s own words, it means the areas have ‘suppressed’ the virus – as things stand.

A total of 17 areas of the borough are in this position, making up around two thirds of the borough’s total area.

But while 11 places, Altrincham East, Broadheath and Firsway, Timperley North, Timperley East, Sale North, Sale East, Stretford East, Trafford Park East and Sevenways, Urmston West and Davyhulme, still have some work to do – all areas of the borough now have infection rates below 90 per 100,000 people.

All areas of Trafford also saw less than 10 individual cases reported in the week leading up to May 12.

However, Sale North, Davyhulme and Urmston West all have infection rates above the national average.

Sale North’s rolling infection rate stands at 81.9 cases per 100,000 people, Davyhulme’s is at 60.2 per 100,000 population and and Urmston West’s is highest at 86 cases per 100,000.

Previous hotspot areas like Bowdon, Hale, Hale Barns, Firswood, Sale Central and Trafford Park West and Kingsway Park have all managed to ‘suppress’ the virus in the last few weeks and months.

Just four months ago, in January 2021, Firswood became a hotspot across the whole of Greater Manchester when its individual infection rate soared to 659.2 per 100,000 – one of the highest individual ward rates of any area in the city-region.
