Most MPs are honest and decent - but profiting from second homes is wrong

No other issue is capable of ending careers, losing seats or rocking Governments as much as dodgy expenses claims by MPs.

The closest we’ve come to a revolution was the molten fury a decade ago when it emerged Tory MPs were claiming for duck houses and moat cleaning, with half a dozen Labour fiddlers jailed alongside a couple of Conservative peers.

But unless we want Parliament to be a playground for the rich we need to pay and cover the legitimate expenses of MPs and, take it from me, the vast majority are pretty honest and basically decent.

MPs profiting from houses bought with the help of taxpayers’ money is wrong and any gains should be repaid.

The new system has cut out many abuses so we should move forward, as politics and MPs are our best hope to create a democratic socialist Britain.
