Most memorable Venice Film Festival looks of all time

The 76th Venice International Film Festival has begun, with a small selection of the world’s most beautiful people gracing its red carpet.

Among the famous faces who have already been spotted at the festival this year are Liv Tyler in Givenchy, Iman Bowie in kaleidoscopic Valentino and 19-year-old Anais Gallagher in a retro-inspired Salvatore Ferragamo suit.

Having started in 1932, the festival in the Italian city has become an established go-to for the fash pack and ‘It’ crowd, with familiar faces from the worlds of music, film, fashion and art muscling in on the action.

Among the most memorable looks over the years was Lady Gaga in 2018, as she endeavoured to prove that a star had indeed been born by modelling a floor-length feathered Valentino Couture gown, and Anne Hathaway in a pastel, ruffled Versace dress a decade before, or Amal Clooney stealing the show from husband George in 2017 in lavender Atelier Versace.

As photo opportunities are seized like never before, all eyes will be on those who take their turn to walk the red carpet. Ahead of this year's action, here’s our round-up of the most memorable looks from decades gone by, from Salma Hayek post-Frida in 2002 to Gwyneth Paltrow looking pretty in Prada in 2011.
