Mos Food Services, Inc., the operator of the Mos Burger chain, opened its first takeout-only store in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo. The chain is coping with the increase in takeout demand tied to the extended coronavirus outbreak. The company will examine sales trends and consider opening takeout counters in other areas.
The Shinjuku takeout shop opened on Aug. 27 and offers only 60% of Mos' regular menu. In the future, the company will consider introducing a menu customized for takeout-only stores. The cost of opening a takeout-only shop is about 30% lower than a regular outlet because there are no tables or seats.
"Demand for takeout will continue. We would like to accommodate situations such as someone buying a meal set for an entire family," a company official said.
