Moruya Basketball has shared some memories of Samuel McPaul, a volunteer firefighter who died when his fire truck rolled in strong winds at a NSW-Victoria border town.

A spokesperson said Mr McPaul was an active member of the Moruya Basketball community for more than 10 years.

Mr McPaul was an expectant father when he died.

"I am very saddened by the news of this tragic accident," the former Moruya Basketball board member said.

"I knew Sam McPaul through most - if not all - of his basketball time in Moruya.

"Sam was a very active member of the Moruya basketball community for over 10 years.

"He played refereed and coached.

"Sam was very enthusiastic, passionate and very dedicated to Moruya basketball.

"He was involved in anything basketball and always with a huge smile.

"He will be missed by everyone who knew him!"

The basketball team paid homage to the firefighter on their Facebook page.

"Moruya Basketball have a lot of love for the McPaul family and it is absolutely heartbreaking to hear of Sam's passing," they said.

"Sam and his mother, Chris, have played a huge part in Moruya Basketball's continuity.

"We could not be more grateful for their support and would like to now pass that support onto them."
