Morton v East Kilbride: Ex-Ton star Chris Millar relishing tie if it beats Covid concerns

Chris Millar reckons East Kilbride will be able to give his old side Morton a run for the money - if the Premier Sports Cup clash between the two sides goes ahead tonight.

Ton were hit by a Covid crisis last week, which forced them to forfeit their Group G opener with Stranraer, and tonight's tie against the Lowland League outfit is in major doubt after the Cappielow club yesterday announced they were stopping ticket sales until they knew whether or not the game can go ahead.

It has been reported that five first team players tested positive for Covid and the wider impact of self-isolation could see Ton still unable to field a side.

It's a game that Millar - who made over 200 appearances for the Greenock club during two spells - is really looking forward to.

And after competing well with Championship side Kilmarnock in Saturday's 2-0 defeat at K-Park, the 38-year-old insists Kilby believe they can spring a shock and he'd love nothing more than to pull it off.

Chris Millar has signed for East Kilbride (East Kilbride FC)

He told Lanarkshire Live Sport: "The ability we've got in that changing room shines through.

"I'm looking forward to going back to my old club - but I want to go back and win.

"If we play, it will be nice to see the old team-mates and things like that, but I'm going there to get points on the board for East Kilbride.

"It's going to be hard, but I know the quality that's in that dressing room and we will go there and compete.

"You've got to respect Morton, they are a team from the Championship like Kilmarnock, so it will be difficult.

"But with confidence and self-belief we can go there and get something.

"You want to play in the big games and for a lot of guys here it's trying to see the standard they are at.,

"Don't flinch and look at the player across from you in the eye and say I'm just as good as you.

"That's something I've tried to say to some of the younger boys coming in, once you cross that line you need to back yourself."

Tonight's clash is scheduled for a 7.30pm kick-off and an official announcement on the fixture is expected this morning.
